The qualifying child’s SSN cannot be used more than once in a tax return OR on another tax return filed and accepted for that tax year.
Fix #1: Sign into your RapidTax account to double check that the information entered for your child was entered correctly. If it was not, then you can update the information right from your rejection status page and resubmit your return for filing.
Fix #2: If the child’s SSN was reported correctly on your return, then you may need to paperfile your return for the year. You can print it from your RapidTax account and mail it to the IRS. You should also contact the IRS to identify who used your child’s SSN.
TIP: The most common reasons for this rejection are as follows:
– Your qualifying child filed a tax return for themselves already.
– If divorced, the other parent/guardian filed a tax return, claiming the child.
