In order for the IRS and/or State to accept your return by mail (paper file), you must sign your tax return. Your physical signature is required when mailing your tax return to the IRS and State. Otherwise, your tax return is considered invalid and cannot be processed. You should sign your return using blue or black ink, although blue ink is preferred.
Only current year tax returns (and the two prior tax years) can be e-filed to the IRS/State without a signature.

If filing a state return, check with your state’s Department of Review for mailing instructions.
